The Attorney General in coordination with Palestinian police in Gaza, with the presence of security service leaders destroyed, on Tuesday, large quantities of narcotics, drugs and counterfeit money seized in the past year.
The Attorney General Mohammed Abed said during a press conference, celebrating the World Day to Combat Drugs, that Gaza is being subjected to risks of targeting the young generation after failing attempts to weaken its people.
He stressed that there is an organized effort and money allocated by many parties aiming to corrupt the young generation in the Gaza Strip, through smuggling, promoting and abusing of drugs and dangerous narcotics.
He reported that the quantities that have been seized over the past year, which were destroyed after the conference, are 2,197,656 Tramadol pills, and 125,339 Kg Hashish, 596,569 kg banjo and a large quantity of Cocaine, in addition to 205,120 $ and 28,742 NIS and 500 dinars forged .
He praised the efforts of police and security services to contain this situation, and said: "We controlled, managed, and provided impressive efforts to capture these criminals, no one can deny that behind this drug quantities there is an organized effort to corrupt the young generation".
Abed explained that what has been seized included many forms of narcotic drugs, pointing out that the prosecution dealt clearly with the courts, and imposed clear punitive policy, so that penalties will be a deterrent to those who are targeting the community.
The prosecution is still working to review drug laws and to find a Palestinian law that would cope with the evolution and diversity of drug means and mechanisms, he said.
Brigadier General Taysir Mustafa al-Batsh, the police commander for governorates' affairs, said that the police worked hard to control this phenomenon in the Gaza Strip in order to preserve the lives of citizens and to foil the attempts to harm the Gaza Strip by smuggling the narcotic and spreading its use among Palestinian youth.
For his part, the general director of pharmacy in the Health Ministry, Dr. Munir Al-Bursh said that Gaza Strip has become today classified as a place free of drugs.
He pointed out that the Health Ministry has been working on a system called the circulation of controlled drugs which teaches the public on how to deal with these controlled medications.
Gaza's youth are the most precious, we are working and we will work together in coordination with the other ministries to eliminate this dangerous scourge, he added.
