The International Forum for Islamist Parliamentarians (IFIP) congratulated Dr. Aziz Dweik, the speaker of the Palestinian legislative council (PLC), for his release from Israeli prisons, pointing out that his arrest by the Israeli occupation forces was in total violation of his parliamentary immunity.

Hussein Ibrahim, IFIP chairman, denounced the continued arbitrary arrests by Israeli security forces against PLC members, who were kidnapped from within the Palestinian territories and thrown into Israeli prisons before the eyes and ears of the whole world.

He pointed out that such provocative practices are detrimental to international peace and security, especially as they have exceeded all limits and reached levels that no human can bear.

The IFIP chairman urged Palestinian factions to work hard in order to achieve comprehensive and real reconciliation and reject strife, to rise above differences and narrow interests, to preserve the Palestinian constants, and to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to freedom, dignity and an independent Palestinian state.

Ibrahim called upon international institutions, the United Nations and the Security Council in particular, to immediately intervene to secure the release of all Palestinian MPs kidnapped by Israeli forces.

He stressed the need to pressure the Israeli government to respect international human rights, and stop provocative practices that damage the interests of the peoples and communities of the Middle East.
