Two Palestinian prisoners held in solitary confinement in Israeli jails have appealed to the Egyptian president to intervene and demand an end to their solitary confinement.

Dhirar Abu Sisi, held in Askalan prison, and Awad Al-Saeedi, held in Rimon jail, said that the Israeli government had violated the Egyptian-brokered agreement with Palestinian prisoners in mid-May that stipulated among other articles ending the policy of solitary confinement.

Saeedi told his lawyer on Monday that he was held in isolation since last April because he tried to defend Abbas Assayed, another prisoner, when Israeli guards battered him in Gilboa jail.

He said that four officers attacked and beat him up with batons after he assaulted one of the officers.

Saeedi said that he was then taken to Nafha jail where he was again beaten by guards for an hour.

He said that the Israeli prison authority put him on trial at a Beer Sheba police station where a judge ordered his solitary confinement
