The patient prisoner Alaa Hassouna, from al-Khalil, said that there are 17 patient prisoners held in Ramle prison hospital and living in unbearable and "catastrophic" conditions, as he said.
Hassouna called, during lawyer Fadi Obeidat's visit, for intensifying the campaign supporting the patient prisoners and demanding their release, in order to save them from the policy of the ongoing medical negligect against them. He said "living in Ramle prison Hospital is like living in hell."
Lawyer Obeidat revealed in a press statement on Saturday, following his visit to the prison that sick prisoners have threatened to refuse food and medicine in protest at the policy of medical neglect.
He also quoted patient captive in Ramle prison, Riad Amour, as saying: "The prison administration held a quick meeting with patient prisoners in light of the threats, and promised them to improve their living conditions and provide them with necessary treatment."
Prisoner Hassouna, 35, had been arrested since October 18, 2004 and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment. He was transferred from Ramle Hospital to “Assaf Harofe" to undergo medical examinations after his health deteriorated.
He suffers from inflation and weakness in the heart muscle, and he underwent an open-heart surgery for pacemaker implantation.
Fadi Obeidat added that the prison administration refused to release prisoner Ala Hassouna despite the doctors' reports which have confirmed the seriousness of his health situation.
He noted that the prisoner Ala’s health started to deteriorate during his imprisonment because of the harsh torture he was exposed to during his interrogation by the investigators.
