Violent clashes broke out Monday evening in Ras Al-Amoud neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem between Palestinian young men and Israeli troops.

The confrontations started when Israeli troops stormed the neighborhood to arrest some young men and carried out violent raids on homes.

Local sources said the troops kidnapped a 30-year old young man named Rami Ali during the events and physically assaulted two girls, Raniya Azzagal, 27, and her sister Nadin, 13, in a raid on their home in the neighborhood.

Raniya was savagely beaten by the soldiers and transferred to Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian young men of the neighborhood reacted immediately and used stones and fireworks to respond to the invading soldiers injuring four of them.

The soldiers, for their part, fired tear gas grenades and rubber bullets at the angry young men before they withdrew from the area.

Similar clashes took place earlier on the same day at Qalandiya checkpoint near Jerusalem between young men and Israeli occupation soldiers.
