The Palestinian government in Gaza warned on Tuesday of the dire consequences of Israel's persistent military aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and demanded the international community to intervene.

This came in the weekly cabinet meeting that was chaired by deputy premier Ziyad Zaza.

In a press release issued following the meeting, the cabinet appealed to the Egyptian leadership, the Arab League and the active players of the international community to curb Israel's military escalation against Gaza.

The cabinet also denounced de facto chief of the Palestinian authority Mahmoud Abbas for his insistence on holding frivolous meetings with Israelis.

It said such meetings are detrimental to the interests of the Palestinian people and would embellish the image of the Israeli occupation and its leaders.

The government called on Abbas to be biased in favor of his people and their unity instead of his negotiation policy that proved failure many times.

The government reiterated its rejection of holding local elections in the West Bank without national consensus and demanded Abbas to stop his harmful political experiments.
