A 17-year-old Palestinian boy was severely beaten and arrested in Shufat refugee camp in occupied Jerusalem on Tuesday night following clashes between Israeli policemen and local protestors.

An Israeli police statement said that nine border guards were injured in the clashes, in which inhabitants threw stones at the raiding policemen, and one of them was stabbed.

The Hebrew radio, for its part, said that the boy was “hurt” during his arrest and was taken to Hadassah hospital for treatment.

The radio said that 15 of the boy’s relatives “rioted” outside the hospital to protest preventing them from visiting him, adding that they were dispersed and one of them was arrested.

It quoted a police spokesman as saying that the policemen were launching an arrest campaign in the camp and were stoned on getting out of it. However, Hebrew news sites said that the injured policemen went into the camp incognito. Police undercover soldiers are usually sent for assassination purposes or to detain wanted Palestinians.
