Dr. Mufid Al-Mikhelilati, the health minister in Gaza, has started a tour of two Arab countries to solicit support for his ministry’s needs.

The minister said in a terse statement at Rafah border terminal before embarking on his tour Saturday that his visits to Qatar and Saudi Arabia would discuss many health issues.

He said that he would ask for supplying Gaza with medicines and medical consumables, training health cadres, and implementing health projects.

Mikhelilati said that his itinerary includes a meeting with officials at the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank to discuss means of meeting the needs of his ministry, adding that his ministry needs medicines at a cost of 3.5 million dollars per month.

He said that the discussions would also cover providing spare parts for medical equipment and training Palestinian doctors in various specialties.
