The organizers of the global march to Jerusalem said they would stage a worldwide rally in support of the holy city on June 7, 2013, which marks the 46th anniversary of Israel's occupation of the eastern part of the city.

The organizers of the march said in a press release on Monday that they intend to hold this global march because of Israel's persistent occupation of Jerusalem and its escalation of its violations against the city and its native people.

"The grass-roots organizations, the supporters of the Palestinian cause and the world's peace-loving people will not stand silent and idly watching the city of peace turn into a den for the racist Zionism where the most heinous Zionist crimes are committed against it, its people and its holy sites in full view of the whole world and international organizations," spokesman for the global march Zaher Birawi said.

"Jerusalem is slipping away from our hands and being Judaized rapidly while the leaders of the [Muslim] nation are watching, which makes it imperative for the [Muslim] peoples to take the lead and start to move seriously to force their leaders to assume their responsibilities towards the holy city and its people," the spokesman added.
