Political Earthquake : EU to boycott settlements products

Resolution by European Union EU to boycott all Israeli institutions based on occupied Palestinian territories of Golan heights, occupied Jerusalem and occupied west bank , was deemed as political earthquake , causing a lot of reactions in Israel. The political analyst in Israeli Haaretz newspaper, Barak Rapid, said that the debate took place recently over EU sanctions against the settlements is just a misleading to the public. He stated '' If we reviewed developments in relations between Israel and the European Union in recent years, including inertia in the peace process and construction in settlements, we will see three failures happened. Tactical Deficiencies A political move such as sanctions against the settlements likes a warning of war with Syria by the Military Intelligence Division. So, Israeli ambassador and his team failed to raise such intelligence information or predict such move. Moreover, the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has failed too to understand the full meaning of such move. Practical shortcomings Israeli diplomatic corps got shameful treatment by the government. Yet, it is not an excuse. However, Israel has not full-job Minister of Foreign Affairs since seven months. Netanyahu retained the portfolio of Foreign Affairs in the last seven months, and he did not care of political issues, in which foreign minister devotes most of his time. In addition, Netanyahu also neglected network of relations with the European Union and its Member States. Strategic shortcomings For the last four years, European Union has been trying to explain harmful consequences of Israeli settlement. It issued dozens of settlements denunciations. Dozens of calls and meetings happened by European leaders to explain for Netanyahu, how much they oppose the construction in the settlements, and at least five joint statements by the European Union of foreign ministers spoke openly about steps against the settlements. However, eyes of most government's ministers kept closed over all of this. Netanyahu witnessed all scenes, but preferred to ignore and just said ill statements over Israel's commitment to the two-state solution. His men explained that statements of the EU are non-binding, and Europeans will not dare to take any actions. Therefore, they really took action, and now we see first steps of such actions.
