Palestinian lawmaker Marwan Abu Ras called for necessarily facilitating the entry of all equipment needed by the municipal authorities in the Gaza Strip in order to deal with the impacts of the devastating rainstorms.

Abu Ras made his remarks in a news conference held in Gaza in the presence of representatives of Palestinian factions, municipal officials and lawmakers.

He also called for opening the border crossings in Gaza before the movement of vital needs.

The lawmaker hailed the considerable efforts that had been made during the days of the disaster despite the scarcity of resources.

For his part, senior Islamic Jihad official Khaled Al-Batesh called for pooling the efforts to stand by the people affected by the rainstorms.

He urged the Palestinian resistance factions to return the favor to the Gazan population who has always supported them, especially during the Israeli wars on Gaza.

In another context, director of Hamas's refugee affairs office Isam Adwan welcomed the initiative of UNRWA in providing fuel supplies for the municipal authorities in Gaza.

Adwan called in a press release on Saturday on UNRWA to make more efforts to address other crises in the Gaza Strip.

Director of UNRWA operations in Gaza Robert Turner told a news conference on Saturday that his agency had received 3.6 million dollars in financial assistance from Turkey, the UN contingency fund and the Islamic development bank to purchase fuel supplies enough for six months for Gaza.

Turner said that the fuel would be allocated to the health and municipal services in Gaza.
