Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Iyad Al-Bozom said in a brief statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday evening that police had immediately addressed and controlled disturbances among government employees in front of Gazan banks.
PA employees were to receive their monthly salaries, whilst Hamas employees must wait until the details of the reconciliation agreement are worked out, resulting in clashes between the two groups.
"The police immediately addressed and controlled the situation in order to maintain the security of citizens and to protect the banks," Al-Bozom said.
Requesting that journalists and the mass media show a sense of national responsibility during this critical phase, Al-Bozom emphasized that everyone must pull together at this difficult time.
He stressed the need for media to verify the accuracy of information before publishing it, and warned against turning the pages of Facebook and Twitter into rumor mills provoking conflict and division.
"We want an atmosphere of reconciliation to prevail among the Palestinian people," the MOI spokesperson concluded.
